About Lanzarote
Lanzarote is the fourth largest and most easterly of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean about 70 miles off the West coast of Africa. Owned by Spain, the Canary Islands are classified as an autonomous territory and one of the outermost regions of the European Community.
Charmingly unspoilt by modern high-rise developments and dramatically beautiful, Lanzarote is like nowhere else on earth. Volcanic eruptions over two centuries ago shaped the spectacular landscape as it is today, leaving some parts barren and sparse, and others lush and green, producing a surprising number of locally grown fruit and vegetables. Lanzarote is famous for its miles of clean, golden beaches, fringed by the clear, warm blue-green waters of the Atlantic, ideal for scuba diving, snorkelling or swimming all year round.
There are endless hours of sunshine from a clear blue sky, and pleasant breezes cool the island during the hottest summer months. Consequently, it has one of the best and most even climates in the world. Average daytime temperatures ranging from about 21°C in January to 29°C in August, combined with incredibly low annual rainfall (just 150mm) all goes to make Lanzarote a perfect all year-round holiday destination. It is just 4 hours flight time from the UK and in the same time zone, so there's no jet lag.
There are many fascinating places to visit including the Timanfaya National Park – 50 square kilometres of volcanic landscape, craters and lava fields – the unique and spectacular visual experience and guided tour should not be missed and also the opportunity to dine at El Diablo restaurant on top of a volcano, where the food is cooked with the heat from underground molten lava. If you’re more adventurous you can tour the mountains on a camel trek. Lanzarote is a great place just to relax or to be as active as you like. Almost every imaginable activity is available, including: Sailing, fishing, golf, tennis, karting, horse-riding, scuba diving, cycling, hiking, climbing, off-road driving and a wide range of water sports.
The peace, natural beauty and tranquillity of Lanzarote, together with year round sunshine make this special island an ideal holiday location for everyone.
